Islam and the Discovery of Freedom

Editorial Info

Rose Wilder Lane in her best known book The Discovery of Freedom traces the six-thousand year development of freedom to the present day. Her book, published in 1943, became a classic of the modern libertarian movement. Ms Lane sees no contradiction between religion and freedom because in the docrtine of monotheism, people came to believe in one creator who judges men's actions. Moreover, she sees that the laws of morality are woven into the fibre of creation and provides guidance for human behavior. Ms Lane contends that there were three attempts to establish free socities. The first attempt was that of Prophet Abraham whose teachings were the first revolution against paganism and authoritarianism followed by Prophet Muhammad crowning the second attempt and then the American revolution.
